Helga and Bob Edwards will be co-leading an education and peer-support group for women, based on the second half of “The Equality Workbook: Freedom in Christ from the Oppression of Patriarchy.” Their hope is to help women discover that they do indeed bear the image of God, that they are loved and valued, and that in Christ they are called to function according to their gifts, not according to stereotypical gender roles.
Location: Hope Fellowship Church, 25 Benjamin Road, The St. Jacobs Outlet Mall, 2nd Floor, Waterloo, ON N2V 2G8 (approximately one hour west of Toronto)
Dates: Monday July 24th to Friday July 28th, 2017
Times: Morning Sessions: 10am – 12 pm, Afternoon Sessions: 1:30-3:00pm, 3:30-5:00pm
On Thursday, there will be only one session from 3:30-5:00pm so people can enjoy the famous St. Jacob's Farmer's Market and other attractions in the area. (The market is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.)
Planned session topics include: Recovering from Shame Messages, Coping with Grief, Freedom from Codependence, Setting Healthy Boundaries, Rebuilding Self-Esteem, Stress-Management, etc.
The group will include a brief overview of the first half of “The Equality Workbook,” explaining how Christianity became confused with patriarchy (the rule of men), and how this cultural bias has influenced both Bible translation and commentary.
Before attending the group, people may find it helpful to read the first half of "The Equality Workbook" available here in Canada, and here in the United States, or take the Online Course, which is based on the first half of the book. There will be a limited number of workbooks available to purchase for $20.00 on the first day of the group.
This is a support group (education and peer-support); it is not psychotherapy.
Cost: Please feel free to donate as you are able. You can donate online through Eventbrite, or at the door prior to the first group session.
